Where Laughter Meets Healing

Guided by the Mantra “We’re Not Okay, And That’s Okay”, Mental Health Comedy Hour is a show where comedians tell jokes before settling into more serious discussions about mental health. Co-founded by comedians Kristee Ono and Wonder Dave, we aim to destigmatize mental illness through genuine conversations and, of course, laughter. So, whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or just looking for a safe space to unwind, you're in the right place!

The show began in January 2019 because Ono and Dave, friends who frequently worked together, including co-producing the popular live show and podcast “Nerd Rage: The Great Debates!,” noticed that audiences didn’t respond well to them joking about their depression and other mental health disorders.

“I had to let them know it was OK to laugh about the things I was talking about,” Ono says. “I would notice some hesitance in responses, which I understand. It’s uncomfortable to talk about feelings in general.”

It had a slow start, but “Mental Health Comedy Hour” soon gained a following. After shows, audience members would tell them that being able to laugh about such a serious topic was actually helping them cope with their own depression. Even a few therapists who have made guest appearances on the show have said they got new clients from the performance.

What to Expect

Talking about mental health can be tough, but doesn’t have to be a bummer. Guided by our mantra, MHCH offers a unique blend of side-splitting comedy and serious discussions. The goal? To create a judgment-free zone where everyone can feel a little lighter, a little heard, and a lot less alone.

When you tune in or attend our live shows, you can expect a laid-back late-night talk show vibe. Our talented comedians kick off the night with stand-up routines before settling into conversations about their own mental health experiences. Oh, and there’s a chaise lounge on stage—once inflatable, now real! (Yes, we’re oddly proud of that upgrade.)
